A weather station, a wireless rain gauge, an umbrella and a hygrometer... what do these all have in common? These useful and enjoyable gadgets concentrate on the weather. Learning about the weather and understanding it is an interesting hobby for all generations, whether they be the young, the old or everyone in between. Each of these instruments can be used in or around the home and can add a fun, useful element to your decor.

First there are weather stations. One type of weather station is a desktop weather center that is designed for those who are interested in monitoring conditions in the vicinity where they live or their garden area. The types of information that weather stations usually provide temperature and humidity levels for several locations and 12-24 hour advanced forecasting. As a rule, a desktop weather station will provide you forecasts for sun, rain, snow, clouds and partial cloudiness at a glance.

Next on the list is a wireless rain gauge, which is designed for the gardener or hobbyist who wants instantaneous feedback. You no longer need to actually go out in the weather to measure rainfall; a wireless garden rain gauge generally has a tracking range of approximately 100 feet and displays how much rainfall has occurred over a period of time. A digital rain gauge also tracks current temperatures and temperature trends which you can see quickly. Generally, these handy gadgets are placed on a desktop or mounted to a wall.

The next item is an umbrella. Umbrella? Who would have thought that the lowly umbrella would go high tech? However, there are now wind resistant and lighted umbrellas! Almost everyone has had their umbrella turn inside out in high winds, getting you soaked and wondering why you even bothered with an umbrella in the first place. The reason this gadget has been added to the list is because they are now programmed to display not only the humidity, but temperature and almost every environmental component imaginable. the newer hygrometers have been scaled down to hand-held sizes, especially designed for portability for outdoors enthusiasts. These units use a digital display to show current conditions.

Wireless garden rain gauge models are often preferred by many people because they allow a connection from the inside of the house to the outside of it and usually also include a thermometer. Both the temperature and rainfall amount is displayed from a remote outside of the home to a base inside the home. This allows a person to know what the weather conditions are like outside without actually having to go outdoors.
